Excuse Me… Would You Like To Dance?

On a flight from London to Lagos last friday there were 50 unaccompanied minor. That can only mean one thing, school’s out! Yes, it’s the Easter holidays and the teenagers are let loose in Lagos. While for parents it’s wonderful having them home for the holidays, what can you do with them so they’re not bouncing off the walls at home, or hanging out with dodgy friends whose last names they don’t know. In our day we all knew each others parents, now what parents get is ‘I’m off to meet Tolu, we met on the flight’…’Tolu who exactly?’

So the kids are home and you have your standard checklist of activities: Silverbird.. check, go to the beach.. check, Go Karting.. double check. But how do you enrich them without boring them… did someone say Fusion Fitness?

Dance fitness is an exhilarating, effective, easy to follow, calorie burning exercise that is moving millions of people towards joy and health. For our teenage youth it’s a great way to meet like minded people and stay in shape, at an age where body image and twitter followers are a matter of life and death.

The good news is, it’s here in Lagos. Meet Trisha Maja, a fully qualified instructor in different dance fitness styles, eg Zumba, Booiaka, and the founder of Fusion Fitness. Eden thought it best our readers read it in her own words:

Fusion Fitness is a company that specializes in teaching different styles of dance such as Zumba, Booiaka, Samba, Bollywood, Afrodance…all with certified instructors.

Zumba Fitness is a latin based dance movement with a programme for everyone! Founded in 2001 by Beto Perez in his native Colombia, Zumba Fitness, has grown from humble beginnings to be the biggest fitness programme in the world, currently being taught in 75 countries and still growing I’m proud to say that I introduced Zumba here in Lagos as the first official Instructor in 2011.

Zumba’s positive message promotes exercise in a fun atmosphere calling ALL to ‘Ditch the workout and join the party!’ It has literally changed the lives of its participants burning calories through dancing and taking their fitness and stamina to another level!

Booiaka is the newest dance craze to hit! Born in LA by the Italian Tataina Tamai, Booiaka is a street dance/hip hop inspired class full of incredible moves and energy! The teaching method is different to that of Zumba but no less exciting in its style and execution of movement to the music! Like, Zumba, Booiaka is for everybody and the belief is simply, ‘its the way you move’ even a non dancer will come away busting some serious moves!

Teaching Zumba and Booiaka is really the passion, but Fusion Fitness want to go a step further, we want to offer even more specialty dance classes.
