The Annual President’s Cup Kicks Off The Veuve Clicquot Polo Season
Veuve Clicquot Champagne returned to the beautiful Lagos Polo Club on Saturday, January 12 for this year’s edition of the President’s Cup. One of Lagos most unique and highly-anticipated social events, the 2013 President’s Cup kicked off the Polo Season at the club’s Ikoyi grounds; a long stomping ground for the likes of Sani Dangote, Mahmud Tukur, Sayydu Dantata, and Kunle Tinubu.
Around this time of the year, all eyes are set on chukkas as the Lagos Polo Club strives to maintain its prestige as the heart of polo in Lagos. The President’s Cup tournament is played by members in honor of the serving Club President (currently Mr. Habeeb Fasinro). The tournament has been played since the early 2000’s when it was first introduced. Teams are named after a selection of past Presidents and the tournament is usually played during the second and third weekends in January of every year.
This year, champagne house, Veuve Clicquot continues its long association with Polo in Nigeria and further brings the “sport of kings” to city dwellers.
